I’m extremely thankful to MakeArt for allowing me to do my placement in their studio; I had a lovely week and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities that I recieved.
As a Textiles GCSE student, the first project I was given was to design a ‘craft kit’ that would be sold as part of the ‘kids kits’ range. I spent a long while deciding what would be appropriate and what to create that wasn’t already on offer; I designed and made a ‘felt flower brooch kit’ which is now for sale in the MakeArt shop.
I was also given the opportunity to re-design the window display – changing it from a spring theme to a summer theme. This was the project I enjoyed most during my time at the studio. I explored all the materials that were at my disposal and finally came to a decision of what to do – the seaside. I made ice lollies from card and wooden sticks, made a Decoupage fan and created tissue paper waves with the help of Sian we completed the new summer window display. I did many other things while at MakeArt: made some jewellery and displayed it, reorganised the Decoupage display shelf, glazed some customer’s pottery ready for the kiln and general tidying jobs.
I have very much enjoyed my work experience and would recommend MakeArt to anyone looking for work experience, who is interested in crafts or after a place to do activities with friends – no matter what your age or gender, there is something for you!
